...One paw before the other, trying not to stumble, a thin and bedraggled shape carefully picked its way over the jumble of pebbles, grass and dirt in its path. Its fur still dripped from the soaking the small form had received after a misstep sent it tumbling into a somewhat muddy stream that flowed into the nearby river, leaving thick fur somewhat more brown than grey and muddling its scattered spots even further. Oversized paws -had- been able to drag their owner back up onto the bank, but now the weakened trembling of strained muscles was more noticeable than before, and the scrawny feline figure seemed as though it might fall again at any moment.
Panting softly, Granite stopped next to a clump of scraggly bushes and let his hindquarters drop to the ground. He needed to eat, but there had been no fish in the stream, and he hadn't been able to catch even a small mouse for days. He'd tried some berries the day before, but the episode of vomiting that followed had left him sore and leery of going anywhere near fruit ever again.
After a few moments of sitting still, he gathered enough strength to lift his head and glance around himself, ears flicking with half-hearted aggravation at the small cloud of gnats that descended around him. It was too bad they were too small to eat. Maybe if he found a particularly fat beetle, it would be enough for a while...Granite Nyte Little Snow Leopard Lost "Singin' the blues while the lady cats cry..."
